Abstract

Parallel abstract (English)
New trends in the treatment of patients stress the need for using day hospitals in order to relieve stationary hospital services, reduce treatment costs and subsequently improve the quality of patient care. Therefore, it is important to monitor certain developments in accommodation and treatment of patients in the outpatient setting. This study presents recent findings on patients suffering from pneumonia or pyelonephritis treated in day hospital setting, and compares the administration of antimicrobials in relation to patient age, that is, pediatric vs adult population. The results show that day hospitals are more frequently used in pediatrics and that in children the most commonly used antibiotic is ceftriaxone.
