Abstract
Sport kao organizirana tjelesna aktivnost zahtjeva aktivaciju fizičkih i psiholoških dimenzija čovjeka, a od sporta je neodvojiv i njegov društveni aspekt. Ta svojstva sportskim aktivnostima daju veliku važnost u pozitivnom utjecaju na zdravlje kao stanje fizičkog, duševnog i socijalnog blagostanja. Iako je tehnološki napredak u mnogome olakšao život suvremenom čovjeku, ostala je praznina na mjestu ogromnog potencijala kojeg ljudski organizam ima za tjelesnu aktivnost. Tjelesna neaktivnost se odražava u nastanku mnogih kroničnih nezaraznih bolesti i tako postaje glavni uzrok vodećih javnozdravstvenih problema razvijenog dijela svijeta. U ovom radu se opisuju fiziološki i psihološki mehanizmi koji se odvijaju pod utjecajem tjelesne aktivnosti i sociološki aspekt treniranja u životu pojedinca i njegove okoline. Navode se najznačajnije bolesti razvijenog dijela svijeta i iznose znanstveni dokazi koji upućuju na njihovu snažnu povezanost sa tjelesnom neaktivnosti. Iznose se neki stavovi vodećih međunarodnih zdravstvenih organizacija o važnosti i učinku tjelesne aktivnosti na zdravlje i osnovne odrednice propisivanja tjelesne aktivnosti.

As organised physical activity, sport demands activation and synchronised functioning of physiological, and psychological dimensions of human being. Social aspect is also important. These characteristics give sports a great affirmative impact on health as state of physical, mental and social well-being. Although technological prosperity has made life easier in many ways, there is an empty spot left in the place of huge potential for physical activity. Physical inactivity reflects in the occurence of many chronic non infectious diseases thus becoming the main cause of leading public health care problems of modern world. This review paper describes physiological and psychological mechanisms of physical activity and defines sociological aspect of sports training. Most important diseases of modern world are cited as well as scientific evidences which indicate strong connection between those diseases and physical inactivity. Attitudes of some of the main international health organisations on importance and effect of phisical activity on health are also cited. At last basic guidelines for physical activity prescriptions are brought.
