Abstract

Mentalizacija je proces kojim interpretiramo vlastita i tuđa ponašanja na osnovi unutarnjih mentalnih stanja poput misli, vjerovanja, osjećaja i potreba. To je urođena vještina koja se formira i razvija u ranom odnosu djeteta s majkom, tj. skrbnikom. Mogućnost uvida u vlastita i tuđa unutarnja stanja od velikog je značaja za regulaciju emocija te za uspostavu funkcionalnih interpersonalnih odnosa. More Bateman su uočili povezanost nesigurnih oblika privrženosti s poremećajima mentalizacije kod pacijenata s graničnim poremećajem ličnosti. Granični poremećaj ličnosti okarakteriziran je burnim emocijama, impulzivnošću, agresijom, nestabilnim interpersonalnim odnosima te disfunkcijom procesa mentalizacije. Psihodinamske terapije pokazale su slabu učinkovitost u liječenju ovih poremećaja ličnosti jer zahtijevaju sposobnost mentalizacije koju ti pacijenti do tada nisu razvili. Na osnovi tih saznanja Fonagy i suradnici su smislili novu metodu psihoterapije: Terapiju temeljenu na mentalizaciji - TTM (Mentalization based therapy - MBTI). Cilj terapije jest razviti sposobnosti mentalizacije, stavljajući naglasak na opisivanje trenutnog emotivnog stanja klijenta te identificiranju događaja koji su doveli do njega. Komunikacija je proces prenošenja poruke između jedne ili više osoba. Uspjeh komunikacije se mjeri u podudarnosti poslane i primljene poruke. U komunikaciji postoje mnoge potencijalne zapreke kojih ne moramo nužno biti svjesni: kulturološke razlike, predrasude, jake emocije itd. Aktivnom mentalizacijom možemo osvijestiti vlastita i tuđa mentalna stanja te tako uočiti spomenute zapreke. Poslovne interakcije poput pregovora, sastanaka ili rukovođenja određene su međusobnim odnosima njihovih sudionika. Abstract (english)

Through the process of mentalizing we are able to interpret our own behavior and the behavior of others as based on various mental states (e.g., thoughts, beliefs, feelings, needs etc.) Mentalization is an innate skill which develops through the early relationship between the mother (caretaker) and the child. The ability to have insight into one’s own inner mental state and that of others plays a significant role in the ability to regulate one’s emotions and to have functional interpersonal... More relationships. Disturbance in the development of mentalization has been linked with various psychopathologies. Peter Fonagy and Anthony Bateman discovered a link between insecure attachment styles and the inhibition of mentalization in patients suffering from borderline personality disorder. Borderline personality disorder is characterized by an inability to control one’s emotions, impulsivity, aggression and relationship difficulties combined with lacking the ability to mentalize properly. Psychodynamic therapy has proven to be less effective in treating those patients because they lack the required capacity to mentalize. Fonagy and his colleagues used their findings to develop a new form of psychotherapy called Mentalization based therapy (MBT). The goal of the therapy is to improve the mentalizing capabilities of the client by exploring their current emotional state and identifying their potential causes.
Communication is a process in which messages are transferred between two or more people. The success of the communication is determined by how much the sent and received messages overlap. The communication process can be disrupted in various ways of which we are not always aware of. Examples include cultural differences, prejudice or strong emotions. Through the process of active mentalization we are able to gain insight into our own mental state and those of others, which can help us detect the before mentioned disturbances. Business interactions (e.g., negotiations, meetings, or leadership) are partially defined by the people attending them. We can use mentalization to gain insight into the underlying processes that affect the mental states of all attendees.
