Abstract

Kava je jedan od najčešće konzumiranih napitaka na svijetu i dio je svakodnevnog života. Pored dobro poznatih učinaka kao što su povećanje budnosti i koncentracije, ona može imati pozitivne učinke na brojne organske sustave. Temeljem dosadašnjih istraživanja pokazalo se kako djeluje povoljno na jetru i da može pomoći u usporavanju specifičnih patoloških procesa. Glavni sastojci kave su kofein, klorogenična kiselina, trigonelin te lipidi kaveol i kafestol. U različitim studijama ispitivani su njihovi učinci, pojedinačno ili u kombinaciji. Otkriveni su potencijalni mehanizmi kojima kava može sudjelovati u usporavanju i inhibiciji patoloških procesa u jetri koji dovode do steatoze, fibroze i hepatocelularnog karcinoma. Najvažniji su njezini protuupalni, antioksidativni, antiproliferativni i proapoptotički mehanizmi. Ovaj pregledni rad objedinjuje dosadašnja saznanja o učincima kave na jetru te se osobito fokusira na potencijalne zdravstvene prednosti u sklopu tri važna entiteta, a to su steatoza i fibroza jetre te hepatocelularni karcinom.

Abstract (english)

Coffee represents one of the most common consumed beverages across the world and it is a part of everday life. Alongside its well-known effects, such as increased vigilance and concentration, coffee can generate other positive effects in multiple organic systems. Based on current research, it was proven that coffee has beneficial impact on the liver where it may delay specific pathological processes. The main compouds of coffee are caffeine, chlorogenic acid, trigonelline and lipids kahweol and cafestol. Their effects, individually or combined, were investigated in different studies; mechanisms through which coffee can interfere with pathological processes have impact on steatosis, fibrosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. The most important are antiinflammatory, antioxidative, antiproliferative and proapoptotic mechanisms. This review aims to summarize the current knowledge regarding effects of coffee on the liver and emphasizes potential health benefits regarding three important entities: steatosis, fibrosis and hepatocellular carcinoma.
