Abstract

Gestacijski dijabetes melitus stanje je narušenog metabolizma glukoze koje nastaje zbog inzulinske rezistencije kod trudnica i povećane potrebe za inzulinom tijekom fetalnog razvoja. Poremećaj se prvi put dijagnosticira u trudnoći. Dijabetes u trudnoći značajno povećava rizik od smrtnosti majki i djece. Najčešće malformacije uzrokovane dijabetesom su anomalije središnjeg živčanog i kardiovaskularnog sustava koje često mogu biti smrtonosne. Komplikacije zbog GDM-a ne utječu samo na dijete, već i na majku, a uključuju kroničnu hipertenziju, povećanu incidenciju urogenitalnih i respiratornih infekcija te preeklampsiju i eklampsiju. Dugoročno, žene koje su imale gestacijski dijabetes imaju povećan rizik za razvoj kardiovaskularnih bolesti kasnije u životu, a gotovo polovica njih razvije dijabetes tipa 2 u roku od pet do deset godina nakon poroda. Cilj ovog diplomskog rada predstaviti je i dokazati ove izjave s naglaskom na dugoročnim posljedicama i ponuditi mogućnost dostupnih terapijskih i preventivnih rješenja.

Abstract (english)

Gestational diabetes mellitus is a condition of impaired glucose metabolism that occurs due to the insulin resistance of the pregnant women and the increased need for insulin during the fetal development. The disorder is first diagnosed in pregnancy. Diabetes in pregnancy significantly increases the risk of maternal and child mortality. The most common malformations caused by diabetes are anomalies of the central nervous and cardiovascular systems that can often be fatal. Complications due to GDM affect not only the child but also the mother, and include chronic hypertension, increased incidence of urogenital and
respiratory infections, and preeclampsia and eclampsia. In the long run, women who have had gestational diabetes are at increased risk for developing cardiovascular disease later in life, and nearly half of them develop type 2 diabetes within five to ten years after giving birth. The aim of this topic is to present and prove all these statements with an emphasis on long-term
consequences and offer the possibility of available therapeutic and preventive solutions.
