Abstract (english) In every sport, including sports for athletes with disabilities, there is a need for classification so that athletes are put into groups that will compete with each other equally. The main goal of the classification of volleyball players with disabilities is to eliminate the level of impairment as a factor influencing the outcome of the competition. Classification has to minimize the impact of impairment on sports performance and enable each individual volleyball player to base his/her success on abilities, skills, strength and endurance. In order to participate in sports competitions, volleyball players with disabilities must pass an evaluation performed by certified world classifiers. Based on medical examinations and medical documentation, classifiers assess whether volleyball players meet criteria specific for paravolley. There are three main evaluation steps. In the first step, it is assessed whether the volleyball players have eligible impairment that is specific for paravolley, in the second step it is assessed whether the volleyball players meet the minimum criteria of eligible impairment, and in the third step the volleyball players are assigned an adequate sports class. In sitting volleyball, volleyball players are divided into two, and in standing volleyball into three sports classes. The same sports class includes volleyball players who have the same level of restrictions on performing volleyball tasks, and not those who have the same type of impairment. If volleyball players with the same type of impairment belonged to the same sports class, regardless of the restrictions that eligible impairment leads to, equality during the competition would not be met. Each volleyball player is also assigned the status of a sports class which defines the frequency of reevaluation or the time period for medical reexamination. A volleyball player who has reason to believe that his/her impairment and activity limitations are no longer consistent with the profile for his/her sport class should have class reviewed. If volleyball players do not have one of the defined eligible impairment or if the impairment do not meet the minimum criteria, they will not be able to compete in paravolley.
