Abstract

Akutna upala srednjeg uha je česta infekcija koja je razlog učestalih posjeta liječniku i propisivanja lijekova. Akutna upala uha je multifaktorijalne etiologije, a točan mehanizam nastanka je nepoznat. Smatra se da pri nastanku upale uha velik utjecaj ima prethodna virusna respiratorna infekcija. Poznato je da je učestalost upala uha veća zimi nego ljeti, a s obzirom na to da klimatski uvjeti mogu utjecati na širenje infekcije trebali bi imati utjecaj na nastanak akutne upale uha.

U ovom retrospektivnom istraživanju uspoređivana je učestalost akutnih upala uha na hitnom prijemu KBC-a Zagreb s vrijednostima klimatskih elemenata tijekom razdoblja od tri godine, od 2020. do 2022. Podatci o vrijednostima klimatskih elemenata (srednja, minimalna i maksimalna dnevna temperatura, suma sijanja sunca, relativna vlaga zraka, brzina strujanja vjetra) za hidrometeorološku postaju Maksimir dobiveni su od Državnog hidrometeorološkog zavoda. Podatci o učestalosti akutnih upala uha dobiveni su iz bolničkog informacijskog sustava hitnog prijema KBC Zagreb. KBC Zagreb prima pacijente iz cijelog Zagreba te su rezultati aproksimirani za grad Zagreb.

Potvrđena je veća učestalost akutnih upala uha zimi nego ljeti. Najveća učestalost je bila u zimskom razdoblju prosinac-veljača i kolovozu. Zimi su bile najniže temperature i najmanja suma sijanja sunca, ali je vlaga zraka bila najveća. Brzina vjetra se nije značajno mijenjala tijekom godine. Nije pronađena povezanost klimatskih elemenata s učestalosti upala uha. Na rezultate je zasigurno utjecala izolacija pacijenata zbog Covid-19 infekcije.

Potrebno je još istraživanja kako bi se zaključilo kako klimatskih elementi utječu na nastanak akutne upale, uha posebno zbog sve značajnijih promjena klimatskih uvjeta koje se očekuju.

Abstract (english)

Acute otitis media is a common condition that causes numerous doctor visits and medicine prescriptions. The etiology of otitis media is multifactorial, but the actual cause of acute ear inflammation is unknown. The development of ear inflammation is thought to be significantly influenced by a prior viral respiratory infection. It is well known that the occurrence of ear infections is higher in the winter than in the summer. Since climatic elements can influence the transmission of infection, they are considered to have an impact on the occurrence of acute ear infections.

In this retrospective study, the occurrence of acute ear infections in the Clinical Hospital Centre Zagreb emergency department was compared with the values of climatic elements across a three-year period, from 2020 to 2022. The data on the mean, minimum, and maximum daily temperatures, sunlight hours, relative air humidity, and wind speed at the hydrometeorological station Zagreb-Maksimir was provided by the Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service. The data on the frequency of acute ear infections was provided by the hospital information system of the Clinical Hospital Center Zagreb emergency admission. Patients come to Clinical Hospital Center Zagreb from all throughout the city, and the results were approximated for the city of Zagreb.

It has been determined that acute ear infections occur more frequently in the winter than in the summer. The highest frequency was in the winter months of December–February and August. The air humidity was highest in the winter, despite the lowest temperatures and the least amount of sunlight. Throughout the year, the wind speed barely changed. The correlation between climatic elements and the occurrence of ear infections was not proven. The isolation of patients due to the COVID-19 infection had an impact on the outcomes.

More research is needed to conclude how climatic elements affect the development of acute otitis media, especially due to the increasingly significant changes in climatic conditions that are expected.
