Abstract

Potporna terapija se definira kao ublažavanje ili sprječavanje simptoma bolesti,
komplikacija i nuspojava liječenja tumorske bolesti. Cilj je unaprijediti kvalitetu života
bolesnika i osigurati da pacijenti koji se bore s rakom ostvaruju najveće moguće koristi
od terapije za liječenje njihovih tumora. Potporno liječenje obuhvaća sveobuhvatan
pristup koji uključuje različite metode liječenja usmjerene na ublažavanje simptoma koji
se pojavljuju kao rezultat specifičnih onkoloških terapija za rak ili napredovanja same
bolesti. Prioriteti potporne terapije su liječenje i ublažavanje boli, mučnine i povraćanja
(koje se još nazivaju emeza), prevencije anoreksije i kaheksije te zbrinjavanje
komplikacija poput neutropenije i anemije. Svrha potporne terapije je unaprijediti najvišu
moguću kvalitetu života i osigurati povratak osnovnih životnih funkcija, uz poštivanje
individualnih, kulturnih, religijskih i etičkih vrijednosti. Jedno od važnijih namjera potporne
terapije je liječenje boli. Bitno je prepoznat bol i uzrok boli te kupirajući bol pomoći
pacijentu u fizičkom i mentalnom stanju. Promatranje tjelesne ishranjenosti omogućuje
nam identificiranje pacijenata s većim rizikom od razvoja kaheksije i pravovremeno
osiguravanje tim bolesnicima adekvatan unos kalorija. Pojava emeze može izazvati
dodatne poteškoće poput kaheksije i anoreksije, što značajno narušava kvalitetu života
pacijenata i njihovih obitelji. Stoga je važno poduzeti učinkovite preventivne mjere kako
bi se mučnina i povraćanje smanjili. Anemija negativno utječe na kvalitetu života pacijenta
te su posljedice na cijelo tijelo duboke. Stoga je potrebno prevenirati na vrijeme.

Abstract (english)

Supportive therapy is defined as the alleviation or prevention of disease symptoms,
complications, and side effects of cancer treatment. The goal is to improve the quality of
life for patients and ensure that patients battling cancer derive the greatest possible
benefits from tumor treatment. Supportive care encompasses a comprehensive approach
that includes various treatment methods aimed at mitigating symptoms that arise as a
result of specific oncological therapies for cancer or the progression of the disease itself.
The priorities of supportive therapy are treatment and alleviation of pain, nausea and
vomiting (also called emesis), prevention of anorexia and cachexia, and management of
complications such as neutropenia and anemia. The purpose of supportive therapy is to
enhance the highest possible quality of life and ensure the return of basic life functions,
while respecting individual, cultural, religious and ethnic values. One of the most
important goals of supportive therapy is the treatment of pain. It is essential to identify the
pain and its cause, and to help the patient in his physical and mental state by relieving
the pain. Monitoring physical nutrition allows us to identify patients with a higher risk of
developing cachexia and ensure adequate calorie intake for these patients in a timely
manner. The occurrence of emesis can cause additional difficulties such as cachexia and
anorexia, which significantly impairs the quality of life of patients and their families.
Therefore, it is important to take effective preventive measures to reduce nausea and
vomiting. Anemia negatively affects the quality of life of patients, and the consequences
for the whole body are profound. Hence, it is necessary to prevent in time.
