Abstract (english) | Pregnancy is a special period in every woman's life, filled with joy, anticipation, and change, both physiologically and psychologically. Often, due to feelings of concern and fear, women stop or significantly reduce physical activity during pregnancy. This thesis is written to encourage pregnant women to continue or start physical activity during pregnancy and to stimulate the interest of medical professionals in this topic. Along with a review of current recommendations from relevant gynecological and obstetric societies and a brief overview of the past, the paper highlights anatomical, cardiovascular, respiratory, and many other changes and links them to the importance and impact of physical activity during pregnancy. Furthermore, specific types of training and activities that a pregnant athlete should avoid are examined more closely, with an emphasis on the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms and processes. Finally, the most important part of this paper identifies the benefits and risks of an active lifestyle during pregnancy.
Given the growing prevalence of female athletes, the discussion about physical activity during pregnancy is becoming more frequent and requires a multidisciplinary approach involving doctors, physiotherapists, and kinesiologists who, through joint efforts, research, and knowledge, can provide an individualized approach to each woman and, if conditions allow, enable an active and safe pregnancy. |
