Abstract

Biomarker je bilo koja mjera koja reflektira interakciju između biološkog sustava i potencijalnog kemijskog, biološkog ili fizikalnog štetnog čimbenika.
Postoji više vrsta biomarkera koje mogu davati razne informacije vezane uz izloženost štetnim čimbenicima i njihov utjecaj, dijagnostiku i terapiju. Koriste se kao zamjene za kliničke simptome prije nego oni uopće postanu vidljivi. Korištenjem suvremene tehnologije i biomarkera moguće je u okolišu, životinjama i ljudima detektirati niske koncentracije okolišnih zagađivača koji u organizmima djeluju kao endokrini disruptori što znači da ometaju normalno funkcioniranje hormonalnog sustava. Većina strukturnih i funkcionalnih poremećaja vezana je uz reproduktivni sustav gdje se vidi njihov antiandrogeni učinak.
U daljnjem tekstu opisan je utjecaj endokrinih disruptora - ftalata, bisfenola A, dietilstilbestrola i drugih spojeva kojima su ljudi svakodnevno izloženi. Za prevenciju njihovog utjecaja potrebno je prvo shvatiti utjecaj na okoliš i životinje, a preko njih i na čovjeka.

Abstract (english)

A biomarker is a measurement reflecting an interaction between a biological system and a potential chemical, biological or physical kind of hazard. There are many types of biomarkers which provide different kinds of information related to exposure and influence of hazardous chemicals, diagnostic procedures and therapy. They are used as surrogates for clinical endpoints long before the endpoints become apparent. By combining biomarkers with modern technology, it is possible to detect very low concentrations of environmental pollutants in the environment, animals and humans. These pollutants act as endocrine disruptors which means they disrupt normal functioning of the body’s hormonal system. Most of the structural and functional abnormalities are related to the reproductive system where their antiandrogenic effect is most visible.
Influence of many endocrine disruptors to which humans are daily exposed to has been described. These include phthalates, bisphenol A, diethylstilbestrol and many more. To prevent their hazardous influence, it is necessary to understand their effect on the environment and animals and then on humans.
